Cosmic witches, sometimes referred to as celestial witches, have a strong tie to the stars, planets, and beyond. There are a variety of ways to travel this path, and all witches can pick the one that suits them and their energy best.

What Is a Cosmic Witch?

A cosmic witch is someone that draws on the infinite energy of the sun, moon, planets, and stars. That said, there are many paths one can take as a cosmic witch. One might get involved deeply in astrology, creating a birth chart and using it to gain insight about themselves and what conditions are best for them.

They might pay very close attention to the phases of the moon and do spellwork or goal setting by it.

They might have a focus on the planets, or even one planet that has energy closely aligned with their own.

All of these paths and more fall under the umbrella term "cosmic witch," and cosmic witches mix and match them, creating a practice that suits them perfectly.

How Do Cosmic Witches Practice?

No two cosmic witch practices will ever look the same, other than the fact that you can expect to find them paying close attention to the movement of the moon, stars, and planets across the sky.

While the witches with a more astrology-based focus will use the placement of the stars to gain insight into their own natures and the natures of those they love, those with a planetary focus time their spells and other workings for when the planet of their choice is in just the right position.

Meditation is also an important part of many cosmic witches' practices. They'll focus on a planet, star, or even a constellation that they feel an attachment to, keeping it at the forefront of their mind as they meditate in the hopes of feeling even closer to it.

While many cosmic witches are theistic or pagan, many also follow a secular path, appreciating and aligning themselves with celestial bodies for no other reason than the pull they feel toward them.

Cosmic Witch Tools

The types of tools used by cosmic witches vary by which path or paths they've chosen. In general, cosmic witches will tend to use items that can help them learn, track, and feel closer to the universe. Celestial maps and globes, astronomy apps, astrology apps and books, telescopes, guidebooks, representations of their chosen celestial bodies (photographs or models, for example) can all be part of a cosmic witch's practice.

A cosmic witch will also likely keep a grimoire, which would be a record of the various spells and workings he or she does, which celestial bodies they worked with, and what they've learned in their practice.

How to Get Started on the Cosmic Witch Path

There are two main ways to begin down the cosmic or celestial witch path: listening and researching. Listen to your intuition to figure out which celestial bodies seem to call to you. Are you enamored with the moon? Or do the constellations fascinate you? Perhaps a particular planet has always resonated with you. Learning about yourself is the first (and most important) step. Once you've done that (or while you're doing it) begin researching those celestial objects that draw you in. By learning about them, their cycles, their history, how to identify them, your alignment with them will grow stronger.

Aside from that, it's important to start paying attention to the cycles. The lunar cycle, the orbits of planets, even the seasons, all play a role for the cosmic witch. Many cosmic witches mark the solstices and equinoxes as well. Again, you'll discover the things that call to you most.

Endless Possibilities

A cosmic witch has the entire universe to draw inspiration and power from. By learning about themselves as well as the various aspects of the celestial bodies they're drawn to, their power can be vibrant and limitless.
