V-Shaped UFO in the night sky

Famous sightings of a V-shaped UFO have multiple witnesses along with video proof. Years after these sightings, researchers still debate what these UFOs are and where they came from.

Famous Phoenix Lights V-Shaped UFO

The world watched as images of a V-shaped UFO hovering over Phoenix, Arizona were captured on video and in photographs. On March 13, 1997, the Phoenix Lights quickly became the most witnessed UFO sighting in modern history. The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) and MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) received numerous reports in 1997.

Thousands of eyewitnesses saw the V-shaped lights that appeared in Arizona, Nevada, and Mexico. There were two events that night. The first was a triangular formation of lights, followed by a series of stationary lights.

It's believed this V-shaped UFO traveled over 300 miles at a steady and silent pace. Other eyewitnesses in Phoenix, Arizona, reported seeing six lights attached to a much larger V-shaped object that was difficult to discern against the night sky. However, there were some witnesses who saw the object earlier during the afternoon and described it as a V-shaped UFO with round ends.

The first V-shaped UFO had five round lights evenly spaced out. Around 8:13 pm, two eyewitnesses, Dana Valentine and his father, saw five lights as a mile-long V-shaped UFO flew silently over his father's home. Terry Mansfield also observed a boomerang shaped craft as it flew over her home as she sat outside with several people. The craft was so large that it completely blotted out the stars from horizon to horizon. Terry described the underside of the craft as a black shimmering material.

A couple of hours after the UFO passed over Phoenix, residents saw another formation of lights close to the mountain range. The military rushed in this time and quickly claimed that a Maryland National Guard was conducting flare exercises. Eyewitnesses didn't seem convinced since there was no smoke and the lights appeared to be in rigid formation, unlike flares.

Still, the media ran with the explanation that the first and second sightings were military flares. However, there were several conflicting stories about military flares from the military stating there were no planes flying after 8:30 pm. Besides, it was argued the military doesn't fly over cities, much less drop flares over populated areas.

Attempts to Investigate Phoenix Lights Blocked

Phoenix councilwoman, Frances Barwood, conducted her own investigation, after failing to gain support from her fellow council members. She interviewed over 700 eyewitnesses. Even the Arizona Governor Fife Symington didn't attempt to find answers for his state and the people concerned about what they'd witnessed. His response was to dress his chief of staff in a Grey alien costume and parade him in front of the press. His goal was to diffuse the growing panic, but instead his antics infuriated eyewitnesses who felt insulted and that they were being minimized and ridiculed.

In 2014, after he was out of office, Symington confessed his response was inappropriate. In a Fox 10 Phoenix interview, he admitted that on that night he'd jumped in his car and had driven up a mountain so he could see what was going on. He described seeing a UFO that was breathtaking and not of this world.

A former Air Force pilot, Governor Symington told the reporter he saw embedded lights on the V-shaped UFO and the UFO was bigger than anything he'd ever seen in the sky. It was as large as an aircraft carrier. Symington also mentioned that an American West pilot was approaching Sky Harbor and saw the UFO and said he could have landed on it!

Lubbock Lights: V-Shaped UFO

Another famous V-shaped UFO happened in 1951 over the course of two months. Unlike the Phoenix UFO, the Lubbock Lights were believed to be several individual UFOs flying in a V-formation. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a V-shaped light formation flying over Lubbock, Texas during the months of August and September.

It just so happened that around 9 pm Texas Tech University professors, sitting in one professor's backyard, saw approximately 15 to 30 lights flying in formation. An hour later, another group of lights flew over that weren't in a formation. After reporting their UFO sightings to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, other eyewitnesses came forward.

Lubbock Lights

One of those eyewitnesses was Texas Tech freshman, Carl Hart, Jr who saw 18-20 white lights flying in a V formation. He rushed outside with a 35mm camera just as two more formations flew overhead. He captured five photos and sold them to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. The photos eventually made it into an issue of Life magazine.

Meantime, the US Air Force issued a report claiming the sightings had been an illusion of light reflecting off a flock of plovers, a type of bird. The professors rejected the explanation. They claimed the formations were a semi-circle configuration, but the second sighting didn't have any type of formation. The professors were convinced what they saw as they sat in the front yard of one of the professors weren't birds. They recounted how they'd seen around 15 green-blue lights the size of dinner plates. The professors had quickly ruled out birds based on the speed and circular nature of the lights.

In his book, The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects by Edward J. Ruppelt, the former head of Project Blue Book, states that the Lubbock Lights were a natural phenomenon proven by a scientist, but he wouldn't reveal the identity of the scientist since he'd agreed to protect his identity. Critics claim this lack of data and the name of the scientist discredits Ruppelt's conclusion.

Two Famous Sightings of V-Shaped UFOs

The Phoenix Lights and the Lubbock Lights are the two most famous UFO sightings of a V-shaped object. Each incident had multiple witnesses, and the official explanations offered were widely rejected by the eyewitnesses.
